Bolbitis heteroclita difformis

Overview: Popular as water fern, Bolbitis Heteroclita Difformis is a beautiful aquatic plant known for its unique characteristics. It works well in both aquarium and terrarium cultures. This plant is readily found in Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia and is native to Southeast Asia. In natural conditions, Bolbitis Heteroclita Difformis grows along the river banks and marshlands. The unique property of this plant to attach itself to driftwood or rocks makes it an excellent choice for aquariums and aquascaping. While the plant attaches itself to a substrate, the beautiful fronds move through the water, increasing the aesthetics of the tank. 

Appearance:  Bolbitis Heteroclita Difformis has an eye-catching appearance. It can easily bring a jungle-like aesthetic to any tank. The intricately designed fronds are bright green and delicate. When the water conditions are optimum, the fronds may grow up to 15 inches, giving a lush green appearance. If you are planning to aquascape, the green fronds can become the focal point of the tank, making it look stunning. Bolbitis Heteroclita Difformis can increase the visual impact of any dull aquarium. It can be used as a midground or foreground plant. Keep removing the old and damaged fronds occasionally to ensure they stay in great condition. 

Hard/Soft Plant: It is a soft and delicate plant with green and beautifully designed fronds, close to looking transparent. Stable water parameters will ensure good growth. 

Ideal water temperature: Bolbitis Heteroclita Difformis grows well at 21 and 27 degrees Celsius. The chances of accelerated growth are ensured when it stays within the range. However, in case of reversal, the plant starts rotting and melting. 

Lightening conditions: when the lighting stays light to moderate for at least 6 to 8 hours, Bolbitis Heteroclita Difformis shows a good growth pattern. 

Other requirements: Even though the plant is easy to care for, nutritional supplementation will ensure good growth. A nutrient-rich substrate and stable water parameters are enough to help it attain better growth. Moreover, supplementing carbon dioxide will also ensure good growth and better color. 

Ideal pH level: It thrives well in soft water when the pH is between 5.5 and 7.5.

Propagation: To propagate Bolbitis Heteroclita Difformis, aquarists need a gentle split of the horizontal rhizome. It attaches itself to the hardscape, and it starts growing and spreading under the right water parameters.  

Do you know: It is advised not to keep Bolbitis Heteroclita Difformis with fish that are plant pickers. The fronds are delicate and won’t last long with such tankmates.
