Overview: Water poppy belongs to the Alismataceae family and is scientifically known as Hydrocleys nymphoides. It is an aquatic plant native to South America. Since water poppy is one of the prettiest plants, it is a popular choice for aquariums and water gardens. It prefers calm waters and can tolerate partial shade. Water poppy is easy to maintain and is an excellent addition to any aquatic setting.

Appearance: Boasts stunning yellow flowers and floating foliage, thus perfect for water gardens and aquariums. The attractive yellow flowers bring vibrancy to the tank, giving it a natural and aesthetically pleasing look. The plant can grow up to 12 inches tall and spreads quickly through its runners. While the leaves are round and green, the flowers are star-shaped with five petals. The water poppy's appearance is captivating and can add beauty to any aquatic setting.

Hard/Soft Plant: The water poppy is a relatively soft plant with delicate foliage and petals. Its leaves are not rigid or tough but rather pliable and flexible. However, it is still a hardy plant that can withstand a variety of aquatic environments.

Ideal water temperature: The ideal temperature for water poppy is between 21 and 26 degrees Celsius. Maintaining a consistent water temperature is important to promote healthy growth and prevent stress on the plant. Keeping the water too cold or too hot can cause damage to the foliage and petals and may even lead to the death of the plant. Regular monitoring of the water temperature is recommended to ensure optimal conditions for water poppy.

Lightening Conditions: Water poppy requires moderate to bright light conditions to thrive. Ensure the plant receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily or provide artificial lighting if necessary. However, be careful not to expose the plant to too much direct sunlight, which can lead to leaf burn. Keep the plant in a well-lit area with some shade during the hottest hours of the day.

Ideal pH level: The ideal pH for Water Poppy to flourish and thrive is between 6.0 and 7.5. Maintaining pH within the range prevents common water poppy issues like stunted growth and yellowing leaves.

Propagation- The best way of propagating Water Poppy is through division or stem cuttings. To propagate through division, gently remove the plant from the water and separate the roots into multiple sections, each with its stem and leaves. Replant each section in a new location. To propagate through stem cuttings, take a cutting from a healthy stem and place it in a water container. Change the water frequently and wait for roots to form.

Do you know- Due to heart-shaped leaves and floating nature, water poppy is also popularly known as floating heart.
