Aquariums and Fengshui: Enhance Your Home’s Auspicious Environment

Fengshui is an ancient Chinese philosophy based on the idea of harmonizing people with their environment. It is believed that Fengshui brings good luck, fortune, and positive energy into one’s life.

Basically, Fengshui is all about creating a peaceful and balanced atmosphere at home or in the workplace. Different elements, such as plants, figurines, aquariums, etc., and their placement may give different meanings with respect to Fengshui.

Aquariums play an important role in Fengshui, as they are believed to attract good luck and positive energy.

Let’s get into the details and know what exactly Fengshui is and how aquariums play a part in it.

What is Fengshui?

Fengshui is an ancient Chinese practice of creating a harmonious and balanced environment. It is based on the idea that the environment around us affects our lives and luck. It is believed that having an auspicious and pleasant environment can bring good luck, fortune, peace of mind, and positive energy into life.

In Chinese, the words ‘ Feng’ and ‘Shui’ literally mean ‘wind’ and ‘water.’ Due to this connection with water, fish plays an important role in Fengshui. Also, since fish and rice are the food staple of China, both these are considered auspicious and a significant part of their economies.

The practice of Fengshui is based on the teachings of Chinese philosophy, which states that energy, or qi (pronounced as chee), flows in and out of our environment. By following the principles of Fengshui, it is believed that one can create a more balanced aura and vibes all around.

Fengshui is a complex practice involving many aspects, such as the placement of furniture and objects and the selection of colors. All of these aspects are believed to affect the chi or energy in the environment.

How Aquariums affects Energy Flow

Aquariums have a special significance in Fengshui. According to the principles of Fengshui, having an aquarium in the home can bring good luck and fortune. The fish in the aquarium are believed to bring positive energy to the environment. Aquariums are also believed to attract wealth and prosperity.

In addition to being believed to bring luck and fortune, aquariums can also provide a calming and peaceful atmosphere. The gentle movement of the fish in the aquarium and the sound of the bubbling water can create a soothing and tranquil environment.

How Fengshui Aquarium Improves Home’s Energy

When it comes to fish, Chinese carp is the fish symbology of Fengshui. Since carp species tend to swim against the water currents and upstream, they are believed to cultivate strength through this act.

As per the Fengshui believers, carp fish species remind us that it is not hard to move through difficulties. In fact, the popular Asian story tells how carp swam up the Yellow River, followed by the Dragon’s gate, and transformed into a powerful dragon.

The Water Element and its Affect on Fengshui

Apart from fish, water in the aquarium also contributes significantly to the attributes of Fengshui. It is believed that water element is also related to the flow of energy, opportunities, and wealth, just like fish.

Therefore, having an aquarium combines the powerful effect of water as well as fish in bringing many positive aspects to the ambiance that affects life.

Aquarium Placement According to Fengshui: Best Locations

You can use different areas to place your aquarium. For instance, if you desire prosperity and wealth, ‘Xun’ (wealth area) is the best. Likewise, the Fengshui aquarium can empower your career when you place it in Kan (career area). A Fengshui aquarium is believed to activate career areas and, thereby, professional life. At the same time, Zhen (family area) helps to bring harmony among family members, creating a peaceful environment.

Here, it is important to know that placing an aquarium in the entry area welcomes wealth and qi in the home. Additionally, keeping in the office area invites prosperity and abundance.

Let’s know about them in detail.

  • Wealth Corner– Energizing the wealth corner brings prosperity at home. It can be done by following the principles of Fengshui and using an aquarium at that place. Generally, the wealth corner is the extreme left corner from the front entrance of your room.
  • Front Door– Since your front door takes you to the outside world, it depicts connection. It is the area from where the energy flows inside. Therefore, the front door is also called the ‘mouth of qi.’ Even though you cannot place the aquarium in the front door, putting symbols of fish like goldfish or a pair of fish helps welcome more prosperity and opportunities, as per Fengshui.
  • Living Room– Since most families spend maximum time in the living room, placing the Fengshui aquarium will help amplify feelings of love, abundance, and harmony among the family members and community.

Another thing to keep in mind is placing the aquarium in a visible place that can be easily enjoyed.

How to expand your career with Fengshui aquarium?

Since fish are considered auspicious and a source of energy and power, they can help build and expand the career. Placing an aquarium in your office or simply putting the carp symbol on your office desk invites positive energy into your professional life.

To know the right areas and corners, you can consult a Fengshui expert and get detailed information about them. It will ensure keeping the aquarium in the proper place and achieving maximum benefits.

Can I have an outdoor Fish Pond?

Outdoor fish pond requires more care and attention because it is open to predators. One essential aspect of Fengshui is protecting the fish from getting sick and its predators. It is important to keep the fish in a healthy state.

If you can maintain the pond and keep the fish safe, the outdoor pond can bring a lot of fortune, success, and abundance from the outside world into your life. However, if you cannot keep fish safe, an outdoor pond won’t do any good.

Fengshui Aquarium Tips

  1. Types of Aquarium Fish in Fengshui

For indoor aquariums, typically, goldfish (a type of carp) is recommended. Due to the gold color, these fish are considered a sign of wealth and prosperity. However, other fish are also considered fortunate in Fengshui, ensuring they are healthy.

Irrespective of what fish you select, make sure you know how to take care of it and are suitable for your water conditions. It is not good Feng Shui to have ill fish in the tank.

  1. Number of Fish in the Aquarium

Nine (9) is considered Fengshui’s most auspicious and luckiest number. It is considered a complete number. So, either go for 9 fish in the aquarium or any number in the multiple of nine.

In case of space is an issue and the aquarium is small, you can have five fish. These five fish will depict the five elements of the human body and help bring harmony and balance.

If five fish also seems daunting, go for a pair of fish in the tank. Number two (2) symbolizes Yin and Yang, a Chinese philosophical concept that describes opposite but interconnected forces. Here, Yin is considered a symbol of earth, femaleness, darkness, passivity, and absorption, and Yang is conceived of as heaven, maleness, light, activity, and penetration.

Moreover, a pair of fish is one of the symbols of Buddhism, thus considered lucky in Fengshui.

  1. Balancing the five elements in Aquarium Fengshui

The positivity of Fengshui can be amplified when the five elements are balanced in the tank. They are the following-

  • Gravel and rocks contribute to Earth Element
  • Metallic decorations enhance the Metal Element in the aquarium
  • Fresh and clean water adds to the Water Element
  • Plants make the Wood Element
  • Fiery fish like goldfish and lighting adds to Fire Element and the fish’s energy
  1. Shape of Fengshui Aquarium

According to Fengshui, if you are using a round spherical bowl, it signifies a metal element and is connected to precision and joy. 1. Color themes of Fengshui aquarium

The different colors of the aquarium represent a different elements-

  • Earth Element– Colors like brown, yellow, and neutrals are considered earth elements that invite self-care and steadiness in life.
  • Metal Element– Metallic colors, shades of gray, and white signify metal element and supports joy, delight, happiness, and bliss.
  • Water Element– Water in the tank is enough to bring the goodness of water elements like wisdom and knowledge.
  • Wood Element– If the theme of your aquarium is green, blue, or teal, it will bring the virtue of wood elements such as kindness, growth, and flexibility.
  • Fire Element– Red theme can be created by including aquarium plants with red color leaves or fiery fish like goldfish and lighting. It inspires passion, zeal, and excitement.

What if the fish dies in a Fengshui Aquarium?

Many people believe that fish death indicates bad luck, but fortunately, in Fengshui, there is no such myth. However, once the fish dies, you must offer gratitude for all its energetic support and dispose of it properly with some ritual.

Once it’s done, replace the dead fish with a new one to maintain the balance in your Fengshui aquarium. Getting the new fish from some ethical source is important in the Fengshui aquarium. It is believed that anything you use for energetic flow brings the energy of its surroundings where it was earlier. So, choose wisely.

Care and Maintenance of Fengshui Aquariums

It is important to take care of your aquarium in order to keep the fish healthy. Make sure you clean the aquarium regularly and replace its water. It is also important to feed the fish on a regular basis and to provide them with a healthy and balanced diet. It will ensure that fish stays in a healthy state.

Keep monitoring the water temperature and the pH level of the water. Make sure the water is not too hot or too cold, and the pH level is not too high or too low. It is also important to ensure that the aquarium is not overcrowded, as this can harm the fish.

Common Aquarium Problems

There are a few common problems that can occur with aquariums, such as cloudy water, algae growth, and fish diseases. It is important to be aware of these problems and to take steps to prevent them.

Cloudy water can be caused by overfeeding the fish or not cleaning the aquarium regularly. The algae growth can be caused by too much light or by not changing the water regularly. Fish diseases can be caused by overcrowding, dirty water, or poor water quality.

So, ensure you take care of all these common issues and maintain a healthy tank.

Final Words

Aquariums can be a great addition to any home. They can bring good luck, fortune, and a calming and peaceful atmosphere. Understanding each aspect of Fengshui is essential if you want to invite this energy into your life.

From considering the size of the aquarium, the type of fish, and the placement of the aquarium, to keeping the fish healthy and well-fed is vital. It is also important to choose decorations and accessories that will complement the Fengshui aquarium and the fish.

Neglecting fish’s health and tank’s cleanliness can do more harm and bring bad luck. In this way, you invite the opposite of prosperity, wealth, and abundance. Since the tank contains fish and water elements, their combined effects are very powerful.

Just like water flows smoothly in the aquarium and fish swim against the odds effortlessly, both these elements can help bring energy, making your life harmonious and at ease in all the fields.

Even if you have an aquarium for aesthetic purposes, placing it mindfully and strategically can help increase the positive aura in the ambiance.
